Program Description Take the first step toward a career as a lawyer, journalist, teacher, lobbyist and more with an Associate of Arts Degree in Political Science. Political science explores political systems and how they evolve, compete and interact. It examines how those systems affect us and vice versa, and how politics affect the daily lives of citizens at the local, national and international levels. In this program, you’ll explore how countries around the world are governed, and gain insight into Canada’s role on the global stage. You’ll develop critical-thinking and research skills through discussion and analysis of everything from history, to journalism, to economics, to political ideologies. You’ll also examine political controversies that raise ethical issues in the public life and political choices of public officials. An Associate of Arts Degree in Political Science can lead to a Political Science Major or Minor Bachelor of Arts Degree program at a university. Many universities prefer candidates with an Associate Degree and will accept students at a lower grade point average. In most cases, this degree will allow you to transfer to the third year of a four-year bachelor’s degree program at other universities. Note: Campus location may vary between years depending on program availability.
